The technologies i have used in e-learning would be: email, chat and online quizeses.
From my definition and what i know my definition of the following are:
Email: A electronic mail, which you can either recive or send messages through the internet. I found my definition of email very close to the definition provided by Learning Circuits, as they define email as “messages sent from one computer user to another” (Kaplan- Leiserson, 2004).
Chat: Communication through the computer to another user, is what i define chat to be. The actual definition of “chat” according to learning circuits is “Real-time text-based communication in a virtual environment. Chat can be used in e-learning for student questions, instructor feedback, or even group discussion” . This definition is a little different to mine as it did not occur to me that chat can be used for feedback and questions, everytime chat comes to mind i automatically think about a normal conversation.
Online quizes: To me i think online quizes are exam based questions on either the internet or intranety. My definition is very close to what learning circuits define.
In my experiences i have had some e-learning experience. I work for Prepaid Services and my manager get us to do a online quize which needs to be handed in by week ending sunday every week. She sends it to us by email and we must search the internet and the company intranet to answer to the best of our ability. I also use email on a day to day basis both at work and at university.
Email, chat and online quizeses as Kruse (2004) explains are one of many acronyms in the e-learning world. Furhtermore, as Downes (2006) explains e-learning users are finding new ways and techniques to intorduce to their users, as he mentions ”some have started broadcasting, such as at McMaster, where engineering professors now host an online show”.
